Business Description
Aristeia Capital provides advisory services to pooled investment vehicles, focusing on investments in the credit markets and other opportunities with attractive return profiles. They employ a dynamic approach to managing client portfolios, actively managing positions to extract profits and mitigate risk through various investment strategies. Their approach involves a combination of mathematical and statistical modeling alongside fundamental research and analysis to identify target investments.
The firm's advisory clients fall into three categories: private funds sponsored and controlled by Aristeia Capital for a variety of investors (Aristeia Funds), pooled investment vehicles sponsored by unaffiliated institutions (Dedicated Funds), and separately managed accounts (SMAs). Interests in their clients are offered only to "qualified purchasers" as defined in the Investment Company Act of 1940, generally individuals/family-owned companies with investments exceeding $5,000,000 or entities with investments exceeding $25,000,000.
Investment Strategy
The primary investment strategy involves investing client assets in credit markets and other opportunities with attractive return profiles. This is achieved through a combination of fundamental research and analysis of issuers, complex financial instruments (convertible securities, credit default swaps, options, and other derivatives), potential outcomes of corporate events, processes for corporate transactions and restructuring liabilities, and potential outcomes of litigation affecting specific investments. Quantitative security valuation systems, built in-house, model unique security features and incorporate large amounts of market data.
In addition to the primary focus, the firm also seeks short-term trading opportunities arising from perceived pricing anomalies. While investments are diversified, the firm does not recommend primarily any single type of security. The success of investment programs depends on correctly evaluating future price movements, which cannot be guaranteed. Investing in securities involves a risk of loss that clients and investors must be prepared to bear.
