Business Description
Heritage's advisory business begins with a comprehensive review of the client's financial data, including tax liability, cash flow, net worth, risk management, investments, and insurance needs. Based on this analysis, Heritage develops alternative strategies and courses of action to help clients achieve their immediate and long-term goals, while mitigating potential problems. These strategies are then tested to determine their potential impact on projections. At the conclusion of the engagement, Heritage provides a report with recommendations and projections. The firm assists with implementing agreed-upon actions, including investment advisory services and selecting other outside advisors like insurance providers and legal counsel. If the client chooses investment advisory services, an investment advisory agreement is signed, and the nature and extent of implementation services are established. Investment advisory services begin on the effective date of the signed agreement and with the transfer of assets to a qualified custodian. Fees are adjusted pro rata based on the number of days the agreement is effective.
Investment Strategy
Heritage utilizes a variety of investment strategies to manage client assets, including mutual funds, exchange traded funds (ETFs), individual fixed income securities, separately managed accounts, individual equities, and private investments. They first design a personalized target asset allocation model based on a client's time horizon, risk tolerance, and other client criteria, and then select specific investments for each asset class. Portfolios are reviewed at least once per quarter, and adjustments are made to the asset allocation model as needed due to changes in the economic environment, perceived risks, or a client's individual situation. In addition to these core strategies, Heritage may also employ options strategies to protect concentrated stock positions from sudden price changes. They may also offer advice on individual securities, including certificates of deposit, municipal securities, or interests in partnerships including hedge funds, though this is not their primary focus. Heritage offers both discretionary and non-discretionary investment advisory services on a fee basis, with the annual fee based on a percentage of the market value of the assets under management. They design more conservative investment allocations for risk-averse clients and more aggressive allocations for clients seeking growth-oriented portfolios.
