Investment Strategy
The investment strategy for the Private Funds is a sector-specific long/short equity approach, primarily focused on Technology, Media, and Telecommunications. The objective is to achieve significant capital appreciation through exposure to these sectors while maintaining sound risk management. This involves identifying and analyzing significant technology trends and targeting companies believed to be well-positioned for building shareholder value. The process includes extensive due diligence, meetings with management, customers, and partners, and attendance at industry events, all while maintaining a disciplined value approach with a focus on asset value and cash generation potential.
The investment program is not broadly diversified across securities, countries, or industries, which may lead to more rapid changes in portfolio value. While the Private Funds generally have a long bias, they may become more aggressive in hedging the portfolio by shorting equities, tracking stocks, and stock index futures during periods when the securities in their focus industries are considered over-priced. Factors considered for short opportunities include overextended valuations, increasing balance sheet risk, unfavorable marketplace developments, management instability, customer concentration, speculative market moves, and deteriorating industry conditions.
