Business Description
Solus Alternative Asset Management LP is a limited partnership founded in 2007 when the Hedge Fund Strategies Group of Stanfield Capital Partners spun off to form an independent firm. Solus acquired and continues to act as the investment manager for all of Stanfield's former hedge fund products. The investment team remained intact throughout this transition, and Mr. Christopher Pucillo, former Head of Hedge Fund Strategies at Stanfield, is a principal owner, controls Solus, and is a limited partner. Mr. Scott Martin is also a principal owner and limited partner of Solus.
Solus serves as the investment advisor and sub-advisor with discretionary trading authority to private pooled investment vehicles, the securities of which are offered to investors on a private placement basis (each, a “Fund” and collectively, the “Funds”). Solus also serves from time to time as the investment advisor with discretionary trading authority to separately managed accounts (“Managed Accounts”). As of the date of this Brochure, Solus provides its advisory services to multiple investor Funds, including the Sola Funds, which employ a credit, event driven distressed strategy.
Investment Strategy
Solus offers a variety of investment strategies tailored to different client objectives. These strategies include long-term purchases, short-term purchases, trading, short sales, margin transactions, option writing, use of bank loans, and derivative transactions. Solus also utilizes fundamental and technical analysis techniques in formulating advice and managing assets for clients.
Solus's specific strategies include an event-driven, distressed strategy, a long-only credit strategy, and a long-term opportunities strategy. The event-driven, distressed strategy focuses on investments in distressed and special situation companies, both long and short, across the entire capital structure. The long-only credit strategy seeks incremental returns by investing in lesser-focused situations that require time to research and source. The long-term opportunities strategy aims to generate superior returns by investing in companies with strong fundamentals and long-term growth potential.
